The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) defines aerobic exercise as "any activity that uses large muscle groups, can be maintained continuously, and is rhythmic in nature." It is a type of exercise that overloads the heart and lungs and causes them to work harder than at rest. The important idea behind aerobic exercise today, is to get up and get moving!! There are many classes choose from. Find one you enjoy doing that keeps your heart rate elevated for a continuous time period and get moving to a healthier life. Pilates Personal Training Programs are also available with Certified Pilates Instructors. Incorporating the Pilates mat work, Reformer, Chair and auxiliary equipment. Pilates exercises are designed to use precise movements requiring control and form to strengthen and stabilize the core, while improving flexibility and tone. For more information, contact our Aerobics Coordinator; Pilates is for everyone! Many sports trainers recognize the importance of spinal stabilization and core strength to improve an athlete's performance. Pilates has long focused on these elements by engaging the very deepest abdominal muscles as well as the more superficial to build strength and support throughout the core of the body. The Pilates exercises, whether on the mat or using specialized equipment, work all of your body's muscles in a uniform manner. We ask the mind to be aware of the movements, to breathe fully and to focus on the exercises. Because we work the body in a uniform manner students can improve areas of instability, strengthen areas of weakness or stretch areas of inflexibility all of which may have been caused by injuries, changes in posture or lifestyle in general.
